Today starts your trekking tour to the Inca ruins of Choquequirao – the „Sister City“ of Machu Picchu. After a 3 hour drive through spectacular Andean landscapes and a nutritious lunch, you start today´s trekking leg of about 5 hours. First, you hike on a plain along the Apurima Canyon and then descend to 1,800m/5,905ft. During your hike, the snow-capped Salkantay Mountain (6,217m/20,396ft) is watching over you on the horizon.

After an early breakfast, you start your 8-hour hike which will prove rewarding with unforgettable scenery and panoramas. You first descend to 1,500m/4,921ft to the Apurimac River, cross the river, and finally ascend over 1,500m/4,921ft in altitude. Once you arrive at the top, you are rewarded with a beautiful view. In Santa Rosa lunch awaits you, and afterward, you will keep walking to the Inca ruins of Choquequirao.

After breakfast, your day will be dedicated to exploring the incredible ruins of Choquequirao. Your guide explains the history and importance of the site. Afterward, you have free time to visit the many different parts of the historic complex on your own. Late in the afternoon you start the return trek and set up camp for the night in Chiquisca.

With the Apurimac River to your back, you are hiking over a continuously ascending trail through the cloud forest. The last part of the trail to the plain of Cachora is not that difficult, and after approximately 6 hours you reach the starting point again. After lunch, you drive back to Cusco where you will arrive in the early evening.
