Day 1: Arrival in Trelew and drive to Puerto Piramides

Welcome to the Argentinean coast! Upon arrival in Trelew you will pick up your rental car and set off on the approximately 160 kilometer long journey to Puerto Piramides. Puerto Piramides is a sleepy village on the Golfo Nuevo and the “gateway” to the Valdés peninsula. On the way, you will pass Puerto Madryn and can make a stop a few kilometers north at Playa El Doradillo. From June to December you can often watch southern right whales in the bay from the beach. Once you arrive in Puerto Piramides, you can first orientate yourself in the cozy coastal village or visit a nearby sea lion colony and enjoy the evening.

Day 2: Whale watching in Golfo Nuevo and exploration of the Valdés peninsula

Today we recommend you to take a boat trip for whale watching! In Puerto Piramides there are several options – from small boats to a kind of submarine from which the impressive animals can be observed through underwater viewing windows. Afterwards you can go by car to the Valdés Peninsula and visit the different viewpoints like Punta Delgada, Caleta Valdés, Punta Cantor and Punta Norte. Near Punta Norte, cute Magellanic penguins live in a colony from September to March and between September and March you can even see orcas here with a little luck!

Day 3: Actively discover the Patagonian coastal landscape

Besides the whales, numerous other species can be observed along the peninsula: Dolphins from December to March, sea lions, sea elephants and toninas all year round, as well as countless species of birds and other species of the Patagonian veld, such as foxes, guanacos, armadillos or nandus. The peninsula is a true paradise for animal lovers, and we recommend you for today an active exploration of the veld, gigantic dune landscapes, deep canyons, and 15 million years old sea fossils on foot or by mountain bike! You can also discover by kayak the Golfo San José on the less visited side of the Valdés peninsula and marvel at curious sea lions and maybe even some giant sea mammals up close!
